Laboratory Test - 1 : WakeUp-1

TCC welcomes all its Children on board for a thrilling ride (roller coaster ?!) through the ‘Grandest’ amongst all full-length tests – ‘Laboratory Tests’.
We are certain that these tests will be highly value adding and that these tests will develop your knowledge, skills, and attitude substantially.

MACRO VIEW

This test was perfect for the starter. The questions in this test varied from moderate-difficult. Reading Comprehension dominated the English section, as customary in the actual CAT examination. The LR & DI section was dominated by questions from Logical Reasoning. There were no questions from Data Interpretation. The Mathematics section was majorly spread across Arithmetic, Basic Algebra, Geometry Family, and Number System. However, the spread here was not even.

MICRO VIEW

English

This section can be divided into two clusters :
a. Reading Comprehension
b. Verbal Ability

Reading Comprehension :

There were four passages in total, each comprising four questions, in total, there were 16 questions.

The first passage was on Structuralism. It was lucid but moderately-difficult. There were domain-specific words and hence it required an arrant reading. It comprised four questions out of which two were ‘Otherwise’ questions (questions without options).

The second passage was on “Search for Knowledge”. One good reading of the passage would enable an easy perception of the theme. The block was a mix of Central Idea Questions, Specific Detail Questions and few Inference Based questions that marked it doable. A minimum of two correct answers could have been comfortably managed.

The third passage on “What is Life?” comprised a block of four questions. Some of them were Tone and Style questions. The passage was factual and was preferred for attempt. Through a macro reading of the passage, at least two questions would have been easily answered correctly, and a thorough reading would have made it four. This passage included easy questions.

The last passage was on “Genetic Engineering” and was of a considerable length. Answering based on macro reading would have resulted in a blunder. A granular reading was required to be able to answer the questions. Out of the five questions, two were easy, the other two were relatively difficult and one was of moderate complexity.

Verbal Ability :

The Verbal Ability section had 8 questions. It was a mix of Parajumble, Text Completion, and Summary.

The four Parajumble questions could have been attempted swiftly. Text Completion questions were comparatively difficult. The two Summary questions were moderate and one good reading would have popped out the answer.

LR & DI

This section had 20 Logical Reasoning questions. The complexity level ranged from easy to moderate. Time is the most important factor; one cannot risk getting carried away by one block. It could be so that an easy looking block is actually a challenging one in disguise. Hence, a lot of caution had to be exercised.

An acute elucidation of the blocks is as follows :

Q 25 to Q 29 : This was an onerous block and required patience to crack the core. One should not have begun with this block. Time permitting could have been attempted at the end.

Q 30 to Q 33 : This block was comparatively simple and a plus twelve. It required some scribbling to derive the answers. This block could have been successfully attempted within a few minutes.

Q 34 to Q 38 : This was a difficult block requiring to solve multiple cases. One needs patience and focus to crack this block. This should be avoided at the beginning.

Q 39 to Q 42 : This was another simple block where answer could have been found easily. It was another must-do block.

Q 43 to Q 46 : This DI was was easily doable. It should have been attempted to get the twelve marks on offer.

Mathematics

This section of this particular test could be classified as difficult.
Further, this section was primarily dominated by Geometry Family followed by Arithmetic and Basic Algebra.

Arithmetic questions included problems from Linear, Circular and Relative Motions and Time & Work; Pipes & Cisterns. Most of them were of moderate complexity and a few comparatively easy questions were present.

Basic Algebra revolved primarily around Equations and Inequations. This topic is highly conceptual and hence a thorough revision of concepts has to be done to adept oneself.

The entire section was ruled by Geometry Family. Some might be bemused as the questions were difficult and complicated. A few questions were comparatively less complex and hence they would have taken less time to solve which is in strict contrast to solving questions like 45, 50, 52 and 55.

There was one question from Number System which was of moderately complexity. This question could have been solved with proper grip on the concepts.

With this we come to the culmination of the analysis for this test.

The first test, along with the jolt, is accompanied by a lot of learnings.
These should help you to prepare better and to come back stronger and with renewed vigour
